Amy Bohan, MS

I’m a native of New Hampshire, but spent most of my childhood in Florida. I’ve had a love for riding horses since the age of 6, and wanted to compete at the Collegiate level. Because of this, I attended Auburn University and was a member of their Equestrian team. While on the team, we won two SEC championships and two National Championships. While taking undergraduate science courses, I realized I had a passion for research, especially in the area of Molecular Biology. After graduating with my Bachelors, I stayed at Auburn for my Masters, and after graduating with my Masters in Science in 2014, I moved over to the Auburn Veterinary School to pursue research. I am currently in a PhD program through University of Miami's Miller School of Medicine.

While studying under my mentor in Auburn, I became interested in Canine Congestive Heart Failure. We did a lot of research, examining the microRNA expression levels in affected canines versus normal dogs. All of this research is particularly interesting, because these microRNA are found in circulating blood, which makes testing very simple and noninvasive.

I moved back to Florida in 2017, where I became a Biology Instructor for South Florida State College. I taught a variety of Biology classes, but my favorite classes to teach were my Selected Topics in Biology, focusing on teaching Molecular Biology techniques, and Anatomy and Physiology I and II. I also was the Honors Director at SFSC, where I encouraged Undergraduate Research. It was very rewarding watching our research students gain confidence and skills that they would then use to present their research at state wide and nation wide conferences.

The BodyViz Team would like to thank Amy Bohan for incorporating BodyViz into her courses, for bringing her expertise to our Brain Builders, and for being a valued instructor, reviewer, and champion of BodyViz. Authors like Amy ensure that we can keep creating educational anatomy content that is free and accessible for all students, with or without a BodyViz license!
